The fires came through the back side of Gatlinburg, upper ridges in the back country, Cobbly Nob about 10 miles east of Gatlinburg lost 75 cabins, Cove Mountain in Wears Valley lost about 75 homes that were too close together and other odd areas of back country had ground fires and lost occasional homes. All of Pigeon Forge, Townsend and Sevierville are fine. The main well known strip in Gatlinburg is fine and open, Dollywood – opened immediately, the Aquarium – is open, and Cades Cove is also open to the public – all were not burned – all fine, The Artist Loop off Glades and Buckhorn Road is fine so most of what tourists are familiar with was not touched by fire. All restaurants and activities in Pigeon Forge are up and running. Now that it has rained the air quality is very good and all our roads are open. Much of the damage will be very hard to see unless you drive up Ski Mountain Road where lots of cabins and condos burned. OberGatlinburg at the top of the mountain is also untouched by the fires and open.
